Intarsia example

I was hunting in my crafting room recently to find this sweater.  Both my sons wore this sweater.  It is an intarsia panda bear.  This is just one example of the many things you can do with this remarkable technique.  Just had to share.
As I find more examples of the techniques I plan to offer in the Advanced classes, I will be sure to post them.

broomstick lace and the mitts for the lesson

Here is the project I have completed for the broomstick lace class at the end of the month.  Fingerless mitts.  Quick and Easy once you have the rhythm down.  A little creativity for some extended wearability and these are set.  I used Bernat Satin in Flamingo that I purchased to help support Breast Cancer awareness and research.  These mitts would wear very nicely in October.

Another new thing for 2012

For those who like a little mystery in their crocheting and knitting, Bernat offers us this CAL/KAL.  There is still plenty of time to get the details.  It will start in February.

2012 Waverly for Bernat Crochet-Along and Knit-Along

Welcome to the 2012 Waverly for Bernat Mystery Knit- and Crochet-Along! We know it's a bit of a mouthful, so from here on we'll be referring to it as the KAL/CAL. In this post you'll find everything you need to get started!

For more details click the link.  Everything you need will be there or on the Bernat forums.  Looks like it should be fun!

Also for the charity knitters and crocheters, Bernat hosts Bernatcares.com for ways to connect with charities in your area who are looking for your hand crafted items.  They also offer free patterns to this end.

Happy New Year to all

Happy New Year to everyone!  So much has happened since my last post with getting ready for the holidays and working on my samples and my Craft Yarn Council assignments.  Thanksgiving and Christmas with all their family get-togethers are over but not forgotten.  Fun times were had.  Presents were made for those near and far.  I know they are appreciated.

For my cousin's wife, I used the cabled keyhole scarf pattern from class because it just seemed to speak her name to me.  It was knit in some lovely un-dyed caramel colored baby alpaca I purchased while on a knitting retreat at Halloween.  For my sister, I knit up a pair of fingerless mitts in a medley of blues.  She is partial to blue.  I made some broomstick lace fingerless mitts for my son's girlfriend.  They were in her favorite color, purple.  I got lucky with my choice of colors as it matched exactly one of the colors in a scarf my other son got for her.  For my mother in law, there was a cabled, hooded, pocketed scarf.  The design was my own.  The pattern will be posted soon.  I did it in a bulky weight cherry red wool/acrylic blend.  This yarn choice made it a fairly quick knit.

I have been busily working on my sample swatches for the Instructor courses.  I hope to have the knitting course part one ready for the mail on Tuesday.  Then I can start on the crochet course.  I can't wait to see what is needed for that.  I am enjoying the assignments.

Today was spent quietly.  We had the traditional New Year's dinner of pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes.  It's a family tradition on both sides of our family for this.  After dinner, we started with our other New Year's Day tradition, taking down the tree and decorations.  I like to do this while help is available to carry boxes and remove the tree.

Now it is back to swatching.  I hope everyone has had a great holiday season.
